Feb 7, 2024 · February 10, 2024. Stay with Me is the second book in the Sugarland Creek series and this is a small town, best friend’s brother romance. It was described as having “a girl who falls pregnant by the wrong man and the cowboy who takes her in.”. So I definitely went into this with expectations and it just didn’t meet any of them sadly.
There's a nugget of a good song in here-a desperate desire for companionship, no matter how meaningless it may be, can be gripping stuff-but it's smothered in its crib by a superfluous beat, rote chord progressions, a gospel choir that completely destroys any semblance of intimacy, and Smith's voice, so commanding and full of life on "Latch", dripping with overcooked treacle.
