  1. Hi, I thought spontaneous recovery occurred only when the unconditioned stimuli was again paired with the neutral/conditioned stimuli. So for this guinea pig example, it would mean the guinea big recovered the conditioned response (excitement) only after being given a carrot after also hearing the fridge door.

  2. Feb 14, 2024 · Spontaneous recovery offers insights into memory and learning processes. It suggests that while extinction weakens the association between a conditioned stimulus and its corresponding response, the original learning is not entirely erased. Instead, it appears to be suppressed temporarily. This phenomenon highlights the complex and resilient ...

  3. Using different designs, Experiments 1 and 2 found spontaneous recovery of both excitation and inhibition. The results support the view that spontaneous recovery occurs due to faster waning of second-learned associations. Keywords: spontaneous recovery, extinction, conditioned inhibition.

  4. Jan 1, 2022 · Spontaneous recovery is a result rather than an explanation. But, as a result, it has important theoretical and applied implications. Its occurrence stimulated the view that extinction results in something new being learned. The old learning is not erased leaving nothing. This idea can be traced to Pavlov ( 1927 ).

  5. Spontaneous Recovery as an Indication That Extinction Involves Inhibition. If one envisions an extinction procedure as leaving intact even a portion of the original learning, then it is natural to conclude that some new learning is occurring that is superimposed on acquisition and prevents performance.

  6. The behavior of Pavlov’s dogs and Tiger illustrates a concept Pavlov called spontaneous recovery: the return of a previously extinguished conditioned response following a rest period . Figure 6.7 This is the curve of acquisition, extinction, and spontaneous recovery.

  7. Nov 21, 2023 · Spontaneous recovery is a term first associated with Ivan Pavlov and a learning process called classical conditioning. Pavlov conducted a series of experiments where the focus was learning and ...
