Prince of Wales Island is located 600 miles north of Seattle, Washington in Southeast Alaska near Ketchikan Gateway Borough, and can be reached via the Inter-Island Ferry Authority that runs along another scenic byway, the Alaska Marine Highways All American Road.

Prince of Wales Island is a world-class hunting destination, known for trophy Sitka black-tailed deer, large black bears and outstanding waterfowl. Deer season runs August through December. Black bear season is Sept 1 to June 30. Waterfowl hunting runs Sept 16 to Dec 31.
Geographically, Prince Wales Island belongs to the Canadian Arctic Archipelago and is part of the territory of Nunavut. It can hardly be called a place comfortable for living because the average annual temperature on the island is only 15.5 degrees Celsius, and in winter, the thermometer often drops below -30.
Prince of Wales. With an area of 204.6 km 2 (79 sq mi), Prince of Wales Island is the largest of the Torres Strait Islands. Being inhabited only by a few Kaurareg families (population 20 in 2001), it is very sparsely populated. The town in the north of the island is called Muralug ( 10.6003°S 142.2036°E ), after the native name of the island.
