Michal is important in biblical history because she fell in love with David, even though her older sister, Merab, had been promised to David as a wife as a prize for killing Saul’s enemies ( 1 Samuel 18:17 ).
What was Michal’s story? Loving the wrong man. She grew up as a tribal princess – her father was King Saul, her mother Ahinoam. She fell passionately in love with David, but there is no mention of him responding. Saul offered her to David, almost certainly on her prompting.
Michal is identified as “Saul’s daughter,” for she speaks as the representative of her father’s house, and, by doing so, forfeits her role in the house of King David. David’s rude reply is his only speech addressed to her in the narrative.
