I have a Marlin 1895 45-70 Guide Gun with a 1-6x LPVO mounted with low rings without any kind of cheek riser. Juuust barely clears the hammer, and the cheek weld is pretty decent, no complaints. I definitely wouldn't want to go with medium rings, or with any kind of cantilever though. Hoptics DOM-K co witness mount.
