"In the City" was written for the movie "The Warriors" in which gangs from all over the city meet in a river side park. Veterans Memorial Park is right on the river and has many tributes to "warriors". Walsh's father also died in active duty on Okinawa in 1949. I think its a solid guess the medallion is on a war memorial at the park.
