  1. Liatris is a very forgiving plant, and will grow in many conditions. If your soil is sandy, a little extra water retention near the roots won't hurt. I'd just plant them as they are. Reach out to Native Plant Trust. They might be able to help. I think it's okay to shake out a lot of that nursery compost mix.
