     void swap(string first, string second)-

     passes references to the string objects to the function. But string is immutable so it is not possible for the swap function to change the objects through these references. For strings, the only way to implement a swap function is to use the ref keyword to pass the references by reference so the references can be swapped.

     OTOH, if you have a mutable class, you can write a swap function without using the ref keyword:

     It's okay, no need to change anything. The only way to send a pageview is via the send_page_view parameter in Google Tag. By disabling it, you won't be able to see any pageviews. The Enhanced Measurement feature includes the Pageview setting, which allows you to change the page counting method for server-side rendering pages or SPAs. You can find this setting under the Advanced tab.

     I defined 'channel_mapping' as class variable, and why do I need to use 'self' to refer to it?

     You can refer class variable via self (if you ensure it's read-only) and cls inside the class and it's methods and via classes object or instances from outside of the class.

     What is the difference between using cls and self? cls is being used in classmethods since they doesn't require initialization and so instance of the object, and self is used inside the methods which do require instances of the object.

     I thought I should just use 'channel_mapping'

     Scopes inside python doesn't work as in C# for example, where you can call class variable by just writing it's name omitting this where it's redundant. In Python you have to use self to refer to the instance's variable. Same goes to the class variables but with cls (or self) instead.

     If you are referencing channel_mapping you are just referencing a variable from the current or a global scopes whether it exists or not and not from the class or it's instance.

     or cls.channel_mapping in the 'process' function?

     From the class methods you would want for sure to use cls.channel_mapping since cls represents class object. But from the instance's methods, where instead of cls you have self you can refer to the class variable using self.__class__.channel_mapping. What it does is simply returning instance's class which is equal to cls, and calls class variable channel_mapping afterwards.

     self.channel_mapping though would return the same result but just because in your code there are no instance attribute called channel_mapping and so python can resolve your reference to the class variable. But if there would be channel_mapping variable inside the instance it won't be any longer related to the original class variables, so in that case you would want to keep channel_mapping read-only.

     Summarise, to refer class variable from the class method you would want to just use a cls and to refer class variable from the instance method you better use self.__class__.var construction instead of self.var one.

     Also, to define 'channel_mapping' as a class variable like this, or define it as an instance variable in the initializer, is there any thread safety concern in either case?

     There are situations when you want to change variables in all instances simultaneously, and that's when class variables comes in handy, you won't need to update every responsible instance variable in every instance, you will just update class variable and that's it.

     But speaking of thread safety I'm not really sure will it be simultaneously updated in every thread or not, but self.__class__ will return updated version of a class a soon as it will be updated, so self.__class__ variables will be up to date every time you call it minimizing period within which different threads will use different values of the same variable.

     Going up with the initialized variable though, will take longer to update if there are more than one instance so i would consider it less threadsafe.

     Reorder your script

     PowerShell is a script, not a compiled language. Therefore, it goes through the script line-by-line, top to bottom, (after tokenizing the script) and evaluates each command along the way. If it hasn't gotten to the definition of a function yet and you're already attempting to invoke that function, PowerShell will throw an error.

     Therefore, in this case you must move the function definitions before the switch statement - as you've discovered.

     Forward declarations

     Even some compiled languages behave this way, most notably C/C++, and require forward declarations to work around this issue.

     Other compiled languages like C# do multiple passes over the code during compilation so that forward declarations aren't required.

     Remember that in general, what works in a script should work at the command line.

     This was not true in CMD. GOTO and FOR %I IN (...) DO %%I are two examples.

     In PowerShell, I can run commands at the command line until I get the result I want, then paste the history in to a script, then edit out the extraneous bits.

     Also, I can take a script that isn't working correctly, paste it in to an interactive shell, and study the resulting state.

     This is only needed when you chose to use managed scaling:

     When managed scaling is enabled, Amazon ECS manages the scale-in and scale-out actions of the Auto Scaling group used when creating the capacity provider. On your behalf, Amazon ECS creates an AWS Auto Scaling scaling plan with a target tracking scaling policy based on the target capacity value you specify.

     The managed scaling ensures that ECS controlled when instances are removed. By doing this it protects any instances that have some tasks running on it from being terminated:

     When managed termination protection is enabled, Amazon ECS prevents Amazon EC2 instances that contain tasks and that are in an Auto Scaling group from being terminated during a scale-in action.

     The entire idea is that you enable instance scale-in protection on your ASG so that ECS has control over which instances to terminate based on tasks they run. Without this, your ASG could terminate instances based on other criteria, not nervelessly related to "needless EC2 instances". For example, ASG can choose to terminate instances based due to AZRebalance process. This could lead to ASG terminating instances with running tasks, which may not be what you want.
