The Federal Correctional Institution, Terminal Island (FCI Terminal Island) is a low-security United States federal prison for male inmates in Los Angeles, California. It is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the United States Department of Justice.

Overview. Terminal Island tells an important story about Los Angeles and the nation’s maritime, commercial, and Japanese American history. In recent years the Port of L.A. has established an ongoing pattern and practice of needlessly demolishing historic buildings at Terminal Island without considering feasible alternatives.
In the early 1940s, Terminal Island housed a vibrant community of nearly 3,000 Japanese and Japanese-American residents. It had grown out of a small Japanese fishing village whose settlers helped launch a booming industry for canned tuna.
