In Dangerous When Wet (also 1953), Williams worked with three important male co-stars – Tom and Jerry and her future husband Fernando Lamas. During casting, Lamas told Williams he did not want to star in the film with her because he only wanted to be involved in "important pictures".
Lamas moved to Europe with Esther Williams who became his wife. He directed a film both starred in, Magic Fountain , shot in 1961 and never released in the US. He went to Italy for Duel of Fire (1962), and Revenge of the Musketeers (1963).
Williams met Argentine heartthrob Fernando Lamas while filming Dangerous When Wet—but the meeting almost never took place. Lamas was only interested in making important pictures and, in his mind anyway, this was not one. Producers really wanted him, so they rewrote the film to his liking.
