As far as the origin of the ancient Mesopotamians, yes, it was African...ultimately. Ultimately, all humans came from Africa. The historical Gilgamesh's ancestors (if he existed at all, which I'm granting for this discussion) might not have lived in Africa for 65,000 years, though, and it doesn't make any sense to call him "African" at that point.
