The Southern 500 NASCAR race is held yearly at Darlington Raceway in Darlington, South Carolina. The race began in 1950. In 1989 it became the Heinz Southern 500. In 1992 Mountain Dew began sponsoring and some version of Pepsi or Mountain Dew sponsored the race until 2005 when Dodge took over. Bojangles took over in 2012.
