The Reno Nevada Temple is the 81st operating temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). History. The first temple in Nevada was built in Las Vegas in 1989. The Reno Nevada temple was dedicated in 2000. It serves over 25,000 Latter-day Saints in the area. A groundbreaking ceremony was held on July 24, 1999.

Apr 12, 1999 · The First Presidency of the Church announced a temple for Reno, Nevada, on April 12, 1999. The groundbreaking ceremony was held July 24, 1999. Once the temple was constructed, more than 28,000 visitors toured the completed house of the Lord from April 8-15, 2000.

The Reno Nevada Temple was the second temple built in Nevada, following the Las Vegas Nevada Temple (1989). Presiding at the groundbreaking services on Pioneer Day, Elder Rex D. Pinegar of the Seventy and president of the North America Southwest Area called the groundbreaking a good time to honor the pioneers.
