Tentacle sync will provide a time code that will keep the cameras and audio recorders lining up in the timeline. They do not address shutter phase. Genlock will provide a synchronized pulse that will trigger the beginning of each shutter cycle addressing shutter phase.
There is no actual timecode signal passed. The GoPro have experimental firmware that allows you to point it at a QR code and do things that aren’t in the normal feature list, including jam sync a timecode which is what the Ultrasync slate app provides. The Tentacle app does the same thing so either would work.
I sent you a DM with aditional details, but the issue appears to be that the XML from Tentacle Sync has some bad entries in it. I'll send them an email and will see if we can get a conversation started. You should probably do the same.
