The Global Ocean Treaty agreed in March last year makes it possible for governments to create sanctuaries on the high seas – like national parks at sea – where marine life can recover and thrive.
We went last summer and the sargassum ruined the beach experience. Stayed in Tulum and also a beach cottage in Sian Ka'an. Had to step over a 5' wide barrier of the stuff to enter the water and then loose bits of the stuff would be sloshing up against us in the water. We went to Cozumel for a day and then realized thats what we were looking for.
