He has previously played in MLB for the Chicago Cubs. Contreras made his MLB debut in 2016 and was a member of the 2016 World Series champions.

Willson Contreras enjoyed a breakout season with Double-A Tennessee, leading the Southern League in batting average (.333/151-for-454) en route to earning Cubs Minor League Player of the Year honors. Became the first Tennessee player to win the league batting title since Joe Gate in 1978.
