The Beat That My Heart Skipped (French: De battre mon cœur s'est arrêté) is a 2005 French neo-noir drama film directed by Jacques Audiard and starring Romain Duris. It is a remake of the 1978 American film Fingers, and tells the story of Tom, a shady realtor torn between a criminal life and his desire to become a concert pianist.

The Toback film, filled with fierce energy and desire, starred Harvey Keitel, torn between Bach and brutality, as the son of a Mafioso ( Michael V. Gazzo ). The French movie is not a remake so much as a riff on the same material, seen in a more realistic, less emotionally extreme way.
