The expression “the Kautokeino rebellion” is used to describe the event that took place Monday November 8th, 1852. A group of Sami rebelled against the non-Sami residents of Kautokeino including merchant Carl Johan Ruth, District Sheriff Lars Lohan Bucht, and the newly arrived pastor, Fredrik W. Hvoslef.
