Gran Torino was written by Nick Schenk. Nick learned the Hmong culture while packaging VHS tapes with the Hmong people in a factory in Bloomington, Minnesota. Clint Eastwood was able to direct and star in Gran Torino because filming for Invictus was delayed until 2009.
