Richard L. Mealand was once managing director of Paramount British Productions. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and worked with various newspapers including the Paris edition of the New York Herald-Tribune. Mealand authored three novels and dozens of articles for magazines.

Richard Mealand (1904–58) was a screenwriter and novelist whom AR met when she was a reader at Paramount in New York City. It was he who recommended The Fountainhead to Bobbs-Merrill after it had been rejected by multiple publishers.
