Little is known about Edward's life prior to his father's accession to the throne in the summer of 1483. He was appointed nominal Lord Lieutenant of Ireland on 19th July and created Earl of Cornwall on 26 June 1483, his father later created him Prince of Wales and Earl of Chester, the traditional titles given to the monarch's eldest son and heir, in a lavish ceremony at York on 24 August 1483.

He was born in Middleham probably some time between early 1473 (after his parents received the final dispensation for their marriage, about April 1472) and probably lived there all his life.
Oct 17, 2023 · Edward of Middleham's mother, Anne Neville, was a daughter of the "Kingmaker" Richard Neville, Earl of Warwick, and she was the widow of Edward of Westminster, Prince of Wales (1453-1471), the only son of Lancastrian monarchs Henry VI and Margaret of Anjou. Edward of Westminster was killed in battle on 4th May 1471.
At the end of August, Edward was created Prince of Wales and Earl of Chester, and on Monday, 8 September was invested as Prince of Wales at a splendid ceremony in York, where his parents had been welcomed with warmth and acclaim. Edward died suddenly at Middleham Castle on 9 March 1484.
