When Martha became pregnant by William, they were presented for fornication; the court ruled that they be punished and be married.

Reportedly was an Irish chieftain who was captured by Oliver Cromwell, enslaved and sent to Barbados. When freed there, he indentured himself to a sea captain for passage to New York. Not the son of John Turk and Sarah Bathamwho were married on 4 Jun 1750 at Peasmarsh, Sussex, England.

I'm huge into genealogy and have spent a while figuring out my lineage past William Durkee, the first Irishman to settle in the US after being sent to Barbados during Cromwell's invasion of drogheada. What was the most confusing was where the surname Durkee had come from.

His arrival in Massachusetts is documented in early Massachusetts records and he came in 1663, and he is listed as William Durgie. Durgie, William, came to Ipswich Nov 09 1663 and was then 33 years old.
Oct 4, 2023 · William Durge (Durkee) was an Irish soldier captured by Cromwell's forces in Ireland c. 1660 and turned over to the Bristol sugar merchants to be a white slave on the sugar plantations in Barbados. One white slave = 1000 Lbs of sugar for the army.
