Apr 5, 2023 · Jeremy’s mother, Ursula Norton-Griffiths, was the daughter of another conservative MP known as “ Empire Jack”. The Thorpe family was very proud and claimed to be related to famous Thorpes from British history such as Robert Thorpe, Lord Chancellor in 1372 under Edward III, and Thomas Thorpe who was Speaker of the House of Commons in 1453-54.
Ursula Norton-Griffiths was born on 27 February 1903. 1 She was the daughter of Sir John Norton-Griffiths, 1st Bt. and Gwladys Wood. 2 She married John Henry Thorpe, son of Venerable John Henry Thorpe and Martha Aylmer Hall, on 19 December 1922. 1 She died on 8 August 1992 at age 89. 1. From 19 December 1922, her married name became Thorpe.
According to Josiffe's account, a homosexual liaison with Thorpe began that same evening, at the home of Thorpe's mother Ursula Thorpe (née Norton-Griffiths, 1903–1992) in Oxted and continued for several years. Thorpe, while acknowledging that a friendship developed, denied any sexual dimension in the relationship.
