Joseph Carl Firrantello (December 16, 1937 – January 10, 1986), known as Joe Farrell, was an American jazz multi-instrumentalist who primarily performed as a saxophonist and flutist. He is best known for a series of albums under his own name on the CTI record label and for playing in the initial incarnation of Chick Corea 's Return to Forever .

Apr 14, 2023 · Joe Farrell. Joe Farrell was a journeyman sax man with an impressive resume when he signed on with the CTI label in 1970, and went on to record some of the best music for that label, gaining an international audience with his release of the progressive “Moon Gems,” in 1972.

Farrel, best known as a member of the original line-up of Chick Corea's Return to Forever, was heavily influenced by John Coltrane, among others.
