After he had finished recording Domestic Blues, Kennedy recorded an album of Hank Williams covers entitled Hillbilly Shakespeare, which featured pedal steel guitar playing from B.J. Cole. The album had a very limited release as the first record on Kennedy's own label, Lonely Street Discs.
