The Ford Foundation is an American private foundation with the stated goal of advancing human welfare. Created in 1936 by Edsel Ford and his father Henry Ford, it was originally funded by a US$25,000 (approx. $550,000 in 2023) gift from Edsel Ford.
We support organizations that address the underlying drivers of inequality and align with our programmatic work around the world. Every year, we award roughly 1,500 grants to institutions with transformative ideas and scalable solutions with the aim of achieving the greatest impact.
