Charlotte Hall Military Academy, located at Charlotte Hall, Maryland, was established as Charlotte Hall School in 1774 by Queen Charlotte to provide for the liberal and pious education of youth to better fit them for the discharge of their duties for the British Empire.

Also known as the Charlotte Hall Military Academy, the school closed in 1976, long after this marker was erected. It is now the Charlotte Hall Veterans’ Home. The Veterans’ Home provides assisted living and long-term care for Maryland’s veterans.
Charlotte Hall School became a military academy in 1852, and remained so until 1974 when the school opened its doors to females and the military program became optional. Although Charlotte Hall has remained a relatively small institution, its archives show a varied and interesting history.
