William Richard (Rich) Stevens (February 5, 1951 – September 1, 1999) was a Northern Rhodesia –born American author of computer science books, in particular books on Unix and TCP/IP. [1] Biography. Richard Stevens was born in 1951 in Luanshya, Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia ), where his father worked for the copper industry.
I spent 2 years writing operating systems in assembler, 7 years in the astronomy world (at Kitt Peak National Observatory in Tucson, doing real-time data acquisition and image processing), then 8 years as Vice President of a health-care software startup in Connecticut (Health Systems International).
