John Dickens (21 August 1785 – 31 March 1851) was the father of famous English novelist Charles Dickens and was the model for Mr Micawber in his son's semi-autobiographical novel David Copperfield.
John Dickens, the son of William Dickens and Elizabeth Ball Dickens, was born in 1785. His parents were servants in the household of John Crewe, a large landowner in Cheshire with a house in Lower Grosvenor Street, Mayfair. William Dickens, recently promoted to the post of butler, died just before his son was born.
