22 January – 8 February 2018. Richard Handley had Down’s Syndrome and a history of mental ill health. In November 2012 he died aged 33 in Ipswich Hospital from complications arising from constipation. The inquest into his death has concluded with the coroner finding gross failures in treatment at Ipswich Hospital.
Friday 9 February 2018. Many of us who have been following the unfolding Inquest concerning the death of Richard Handley, are not surprised that the Coroner found gross and significant failures on the part of those caring for him. This language has a special meaning in the Coroner’s court and is usually the precursor for a finding of Neglect.
