    Joseph "Joe" Wallenstein (born July 9, 1944) is an American television and film producer and director. He produced a total of 52 episodes of Knots Landing from seasons 1 thru 3, also serving as an associte producer of the series' pilot. He also served as the producer of the 1985 CBS-TV movie Dallas:The Early Years.

    Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Joe studied at the New York University, where he majored in Film and Television Production. He earned a Bachelor of Business Science Degree in “Motion Picture, Television and Radio, Production and Direction.

    Soon thereafter, he began his career as a Freelance Production Assistant and worked on the New York portions of such films as “Mister Buddwing starring James Garner and “Where Were You When the Lights Went Out?” headlined by Doris Day, Frank Sinatra and Robert Morse.

    Wallenstein joined the Director’s Guild of America as a Second Assistant Director in October of 1968. He worked on hundreds of commercials.

    He worked as a Second, Second Assistant Director on major portions of the 1972 Oscar-winning film The Godfather when it filmed on Staten Island and New York City. Some of his other early credits include For Love of Ivy, starring Sidney Poitier, Nancy Marchand and Carol O’Connor, Nicky’s World. starring John Cassavettes and Paper Lion (1968) in Boca Raton, Florida, starring Alan Alda and Lauren Hutton.

    Prior to his moving up in the ranks, he also worked on the original “Paper Chase” with John Housman and Lindsey Wagner. He worked on portions of “Up the Sandbox, “Lovers and Other Strangers” and Garson Kanen’s “One With the Fuzz,” starring Red Buttons.

    Wallenstein also has worked on the pilots of The Snoop Sisters starring Helen Hayes, Mildred Natwick and Art Carney and “McCloud,” starring Dennis Weaver.
