Maji-da Abdi (born 25 October 1970) is an Ethiopian film director and producer. Biography. Born in Dire Dawa, Abdi lived in Addis Ababa until the age of four. In the aftermath of the 1974 revolution, her mother, who had divorced her father, fled with her and her brother to Nairobi, Kenya.

Maji-da Abdi first came into contact with cinema in the ‘90s: while travelling in Nepal, she met Bernardo Bertolucci who was filming Little Buddha and began an internship on set. Once returned to Ethiopia, her home country, she directed documentaries and worked as a journalist for CNN.
