    Peter Horrocks was born at Farnworth, near Bolton, the seventh son of George Horrocks, cotton manufacturer, of Farnworth, and his wife Mary Horner. He received his medical education at Owens College, Manchester, and Guy’s Hospital, where his many honours included the Treasurer’s gold medal.
