If the author had depended on Josephus’ Antiquities for his reference to Quirinius (Luke 2:2), it would have been necessary to date the gospel near the end of the 1st cent.

Jul 4, 2004 · Strictly speaking, The Gospel of Luke is anonymous, but Luke the physician and companion of Paul is probably the author of the Gospel by his name. He was also the author of its companion work, The Book of Acts. Luke-Acts makes up 28% of the New Testament--more than that written by either Paul or John.
