Dr. Keving Lafferty is a Senior Ecologist with the Western Ecological Research Center. His main interest lies in how parasites affect ecosystems and, in turn, how ecosystems affect parasites. He is also involved in research on the conservation of marine resources, investigating strategies for protecting endangered shorebirds, fish and abalone.

I work on conservation biology issues, including research to guide the protection and recovery of the endangered tidewater goby, black abalone, southern sea otter, and western snowy plover. In addition, I study the effect of fishing on marine communities.
Since 1998, I've worked as an Ecologist with the US Geological Survey. I’ve been at UCSB more or less since I came as an undergraduate in 1981 and then got my Ph.D here in 1991. I have an office and laboratory on campus at UCSB’s Marine Science Institute.
