He was the only member of the party with prior experience in North America, having taken part in a mission to supply the Jamestown Colony of Virginia in 1609 CE.
Stephen Hopkins (March 7, 1707 – July 13, 1785) was a Founding Father of the United States, [2] a governor of the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, a chief justice of the Rhode Island Supreme Court, and a signer of the Continental Association and Declaration of Independence.

Aug 11, 2023 · Stephen Hopkins was a politician, Founding Father, and an early opponent of British colonial policies that restricted the rights of American colonists. He became involved in local politics at a young age and was eventually appointed to the Rhode Island Supreme Court.
Stranded on an island for ten months, the passengers and crew survived on turtles, birds, and wild pigs. Six months into the castaway, Stephen Hopkins and several others organized a mutiny against the current governor. The mutiny was discovered and Stephen was sentenced to death.
