Feb 28, 2022 · Cressida was the first Toyota in North America to have fuel injection. The Cressida’s transmission was most often a four-speed automatic, but there was a five-speed manual available. As it was the largest Toyota on sale in North America and a luxury model, the Cressida didn’t come cheap.
The Cressida was re-engineered on a regular four-year schedule; the 1977-1980 series was available as a wagon, coupe, or sedan; and the Cresta variant was added in 1981. All were rear wheel drive, sharing driveline components (and the straight-six engine) with the sporty Toyota Supra.
