    Goodman was named to the Missouri Court of Appeals, Southern District, by Gov. Mike Parson (R) on Dec. 23, 2020. Parson selected Goodman from a list of three nominees prepared by the Missouri Appellate Judicial Commission on Dec. 3, 2020. Goodman joined the court on Dec. 31, 2020, following the retirement of Judge Daniel Scott.

    Goodman served as the presiding judge on Missouri's 39th Judicial Circuit Court from 2013 until 2020. He was first elected in 2012 and re-elected in 2018. Goodman left the court in 2020 after Gov. Mike Parson (R) appointed him to serve on the Missouri Court of Appeals, Southern District.

    Goodman represented Missouri State Senate District 29 as a Republican from 2005 until 2013. He was first elected in 2005 in a special election following the death of Sen. Larry "Gene" Taylor (R). He was re-elected in 2008 and left office in 2013 following the end of his term. Goodman was unable to run for re-election to the state Senate in 2012 due to term limits. Goodman served as Assistant Majority Floor Leaderuntil 2011.
