Try Whistling This is the debut solo album by the New Zealand singer/songwriter Neil Finn, released in 1998. It was produced by Finn, Tchad Blake, Marius De Vries, and Jim Moginie. The Japanese version of the album has a bonus track called "Tokyo", which also appears on the UK release of the single "Sinner".

Jul 28, 2018 · Many fans saw Neil Finn’s solo release as the final nail in the coffin for any hope that Crowded House would reunite. In 1998 Finn would release his debut solo album, Try Whistling This. Finn would produce the album with Tchad Blake, Marius De Vries, and Jim Moginie.
A brief history: Big brother Tim invites little brother Neil to join his band Split Enz. Neil says ‘I Got You,’ then forms Crowded House, taking Enz drummer Paul Hester along for the ride. Little brother Neil invites big brother Tim to join the “housemates” on 1991’s Woodface album. Brothers bicker. Locks are changed. Tim leaves.

The early 2000s saw Marius exploring other musical languages and cultures, in India, China, and Brazil, with A R Rahman, Sa Ding Ding and Bebel Gilberto, as well as producing landmark releases for singer-songwriters Neil Finn (Try Whistling This) Rufus Wainwright (Want One and Want Two) and David Gray (Life in Slow Motion).
