Augury was a Greco - Roman religion practice of observing the behavior of birds, to receive omens. When the individual, known as the augur, read these signs, it was referred to as "taking the auspices". "Auspices" ( Latin auspicium) means "looking at birds". Auspex, another word for augur, can be translated to "one who looks at birds". [1] .

"Auguries of Innocence" is a poem by William Blake, from a notebook of his now known as the Pickering Manuscript. It is assumed to have been written in 1803, but was not published until 1863 in the companion volume to Alexander Gilchrist's biography of Blake.

‘Auguries of Innocence’ is a poem containing a hundred and thirty-two lines written in one long stanza. The rough rhyme scheme and uneven length of the poem add to its sense of passion and fury, as it reads much like a plea from the poet to the reader.
