Sarah Nolan is a character on The Rookie; she is the ex-wife of Officer John Nolan and the mother of Henry Nolan. She is played by Emily Deschanel.
Sarah was John Nolan's girlfriend in high school and in college; during John's junior (third) college year, they broke up. John started seeing Grace Sawyer, but two weeks later, Sarah told John she was eight weeks pregnant with his baby. John dropped out of college, moved back to Foxburg, and married Sarah, and Henry was born several months later.
In the Pilot episode, John tells a friend that he'd seen the divorce coming for two years, and that he and Sarah had agreed to wait until Henry left for college before divorcing, so presumably Sarah and John had decided on a divorce when Henry was around sixteen years old.
In "Time of Death", when John has to deal with the consequences of taking a suspect's life in the line of duty, he calls Sarah to let her know so she won't be surprised by the news. From Sarah's tone on the call, it seems their parting was relatively amicable.
The first time Sarah appears on the show is in season 3, episode 12, "Brave Heart", where she and John have to decide how best to support Henry in his difficult decision about surgery. In the previous episode, Henry mentions that he and Abigail had been helping his mom move to her new place in Arizona.
