Nov 1, 2002 · Matching Mole: March. Drummer/vocalist Robert Wyatt formed this band, soon after his departure from the now legendary Soft Machine aggregation. With only two albums under its belt, Matching Mole disbanded in 1972, whereas Cuneiform Records has furthered its legacy due to the 2001 release titled Smoke Signals.

Matching Mole were an English progressive rock band associated with the Canterbury scene. Robert Wyatt formed the band in October 1971 after he left Soft Machine and recorded his first solo album, The End of an Ear (4 December 1970).

The opener, March (from Little Red Record) is almost unrecognizable, but not in a good way - that is, not because they were playing around with the structure and melody, extending it beyond its usual moorings, but instead because they don't seem to be able to play it!
