Oct 2, 2019 · On Friday, Sept. 27, American University Washington College of Law Professor Emeritus Herman Schwartz was recognized for his world-renowned legal legacy during “A Global Lawyer: A Symposium Celebrating the Contributions of Herman Schwartz to the Rule of Law.”
Herman Schwartz is a professor of law, a Constitutional scholar, and a strong proponent of civil and human rights, including prisoners' rights. In 1971, he acted as an observer at the Attica Prison riot, and he served on the Commission of Corrections of New York State.

Herman Schwartz is a professor in the Politics department of the University of Virginia. He is the author or editor of seven books on economic development, globalization, Denmark's welfare state, employment policy, the politics of housing finance, the global financial crisis, and the geo-politics of the subprime mortgage crisis.
The symposium featured numerous panels, which covered many of the issues Professor Emeritus Schwartz has been dedicated to throughout his career, including voting rights, comparative constitutionalism, human rights in Israel, and prison reform.
