An important arranger, songwriter - and later - producer, who was a close associate of MGM producer Arthur Freed from the 30s through to the 50s, when the legendary Freed Unit was turning out one magnificent film musical after another.
Roger Edens was a producer and composer who worked on musical films such as The Wizard of Oz, Show Boat and The Sound of Music. He was born in Texas in 1905 and died in Los Angeles in 1970.

Roger Edens was the single most important creative musical figure at MGM -- and, possibly, in Hollywood -- from the end of the 1930s until the beginning of the '60s.
Oscar-winning Roger Edens was an unequivocal star of his craft. He followed this honor with songs in "Babes on Broadway" (1941) with Mickey Rooney, the comedy adaptation "Good News" (1947) with June Allyson and the adaptation "On the Town" (1949) with Gene Kelly. Edens won an Academy Award for "Strike Up the Band" in 1940.
