Heart to Heart was not Sanborn's first album, on the other hand, his time as a smooth jazz herald had not yet come. In 1978, Sanborn had already perfected his raw, fiery alto sax sound, but his solo improvisations weren't yet "Sanborn-isms". The record has remained relatively unnoticed in the slipstream of the popular discs from the eighties.
