Feb 2, 2018 · Clemence Dane won an Oscar as the scriptwriter for Vacation from Marriage in 1946. She was the first British woman screenwriter to have ever achieved that award. In 1953, she was awarded the CBE. In private life, she was unmarried but kept an open house for friends and was noted for her generous, outgoing character.
