Bruce Henstell was a sophomore at Berkeley and writer for the Cal humor magazine, The Pelican, where he collaborated with David Goines. As a precocious science fiction fan and radio producer at KPFK in Los Angeles, he had met and was influenced by veteran Cal politicos Mike Tigar and Ken Cloke.
