Jun 13, 2019 · It took Shaw most of 1937 to get this band to swing consistently. _____ (1) Shaw also performed “I Surrender, Dear” as a guest with Paul Whiteman’s orchestra on July 8, 1938 on Whiteman’s radio show, sponsored by Chesterfield Cigarettes. That performance was recorded. (2) Art Shaw became Artie Shaw gradually.
The show was well received, but was forced to dissolve in 1937 because his band's sound was not commercial. Shaw valued experimental and innovative music over dancing and love songs.
