Iris Luella DeMent (born January 5, 1961) [1] is an American singer-songwriter and musician. DeMent's musical style includes elements of folk, country and gospel.

In April 2015 Russell released The Rose of Roscrae, a double-album on Frontera Records, a Western folk opera that completes the trilogy begun with The Man From God Knows Where and Hotwalker. The double album depicts the journey of an Irishman named Johnny Dutton who sails to America to become a cowboy.
Russell kicks the album off nicely with the title track, sung from the point of view of his namesake who was hanged in 1798 during the United Irish Rebellion. Iris Dement follows with an effective rendition of the standard "Wayfaring Stranger," and a duet with Russell on "Patrick Russell," about another Irish ancestor.

For this venture, Russell assembled a skillful supporting cast that includes Iris Dement, whose clear and plaintive voice is a perfect counterpoint and complement to Russell’s, and Dave Van Ronk, Greenwich Village folkie who sings a couple of the more raucous numbers.
