Falstaff – Symphonic Study in C minor, Op. 68, is an orchestral work by the English composer Edward Elgar. Though not so designated by the composer, it is a symphonic poem in the tradition of Franz Liszt and Richard Strauss .

Jul 11, 2023 · At his home in Hereford, between 1904 and 1906, Elgar wrote two symphonies, The Kingdom oratorio, and his Introduction and Allegro for string and orchestra. The composer was honoured with a three-day festival of his music in Covent Garden in 1904.

The first English composer of international stature since Henry Purcell (1659–95), Elgar liberated his country’s music from its insularity.
Elgar wrote in all genres except opera, yet he is best known for the Pomp and Circumstance marches and his orchestral works — the Enigma Variations, two symphonies, three concert overtures, a concerto for violin and one for cello, the “symphonic sketch” Falstaff, and so on.
